The preparations for the 2011 Census have begun. Recently, a conference on “Technology Options for 2011 Census” was held on 3^rd and 4^th December 2007 at New Delhi. In the Conference experts from Government and industry presented their views on data collection through paper (for scanning & ICR purpose) and on using Hand Held devices for direct data entry in selected urban areas, to begin with. The consensus was by and large to continue the use of improved ICR Technology for 2011 Census along with experimenting and doing trial runs to assess the cost effectiveness and workability of the combined use of technologies. This exercise would be carried out further during 2008-2009.
