Among the major States, Bihar occupies the first position with a density of 1106, surpassing West Bengal which occupied the first position during 2001.                 The minimum population density works out in Arunachal Pradesh (17) for both 2001 and 2011 Census.                 The total number of children in India is 164.5 millions, about 660 thousand more than the number recorded in 2001.                Highest proportion of urban population is in NCT Delhi (97.5%).                Density of population in India is 382 persons per sq km.                Delhi (11,320) turns out to be the most densely inhabited followed by Chandigarh (9,258), among all States/UTs, both in 2001 and 2011 Census.

Census

Census of India is the only source of Primary data. A huge number of People involved in Census Enumeration in a specified time period following the same procedure in all over India. I think one day in this year (2013), which will be an important day for Census may be celebrated as "CENSUS DAY" - Surajit dey

    

Use of different materials in the construction of roof at the country level is undergoing change. In rural India proportions of households using different materials are: Grass/ Thatch/ Bamboo/ Wood/ Mud, etc.: 20% (declined from 27.7% in Census 2001); Plastic/Polythene: 0.6% (increased from 0.4%); Tiles: 28.7% (declined from 37.5%); Burnt brick: 7.2% (increased from 5.6%); Stone/Slate: 8.9% (increased from 7.3%); G.I./ Metal/ Asbestos sheets: 15.9% (increased from 9.8%); Concrete: 18.3% (increased from 11%) and Any other material: 0.4% (declined from 0.6%).

    

Still 3.3 crore households in rural India live in houses with Grass/ Thatch/ Bamboo/ Wood/ Mud, etc. as roof. The number has reduced substantially since 2001 by about 49 lakh. The largest decline is reported from Uttar Pradesh (57 lakh).
