CensusGIS
India Launched
Mr L.
K. Advani, Honorable Deputy Prime Minister of India dedicated CensusGIS
India to the service of the nation. CensusGIS India is a software made
available at the Census of India website on the Internet, which allows
generating thematic maps on the provisional results of the 2001 Census
data released so far. This is a very user friendly software made available
for free use to the large number of data users who visit the Census of
India website.
Mr
L K Advani, Deputy Prime Minister of India launching
CensusGIS India on 5th September 2002
How
it works :
To generate theme-based
maps, one has to reach the Census GIS web page at http://www.censusindiamaps.net/IndiaCensus/Map.htm
and select first the area (viz., India, Uttar Pradesh etc.). There are
three options available for selection. These are:
India
map showing Sates/Union territories
India map showing Districts
Each State/ Union territory showing Districts.
After
the area, the next step is to select any one Category from a drop down
menu. The categories are:
- Population
- Population 0-6 years
- Population
Density
- Percentage
of Urban Populationv Sex Ratio
- Sex Ratio
0-6 years
- Percentage
of Decadal Growth
- Number of
Literates
- Number of
Illiterates
- Literacy
Ratev Gender Gap in Literacy Rate
- Gap in Urban-Rural
Literacy Rate
|
- Number of
Workers (Total, Main and Marginal)
- Work Participation
Rate
- Percentage
of Workers to Total Population (Main and Marginal)
- Category
of Workers (Cultivators, Agricultural Labourers,
Household Industry
Workers an Other Workers)
- Percentage
of Category of Workers to Total Workers.
|
The third
and final step is to select the Indicator from among the list provided
in the drop down menu. These are in fact sub-population of the main Category
selected. For example, the Indicators under the Category 'Population'
are the following:
- Persons (Total)
- Persons (Rural)
- Persons (Urban)
- Males (Total)
- Males (Rural) |
- Males (Urban)
- Females (Total)
- Females (Rural)
- Females (Urban) |
For building
query use the 'Operator' (e.g., =, <, <=, >, >=) and indicate
a 'Value' for locating States or Districts which satisfy the conditions.
A few thematic maps
generated using Census GIS provided for free use at the Census of India
website on the Internet are available at Map
Gallery.
